Caroline Antoun will share her story of losing parental rights to her unborn embryos because they are considered property and not people. Aimee Murphy will also share her experience with embryo adoption. This session will discuss the history of IVF, statistics around domestic violence and infertility, and the legal landscape around IVF and the protection of embryos.

Understanding MAID From An Anti-Ableist, Anti-Ageist Lens: The Fight for Life at the Intersection of Youth, Elder, and Disability Rights and Liberation

Medical Aid in Dying (MAID) is often discussed in terms of dangers posed to the disabled and sometimes elders. Rarely is MAID recognized as also being a youth rights issue. This is the focus of this presentation, looking at the history and philosophy of MAID and how MAID discourse renders sick and disabled youth as subhuman property to dispose of as parents and doctors see fit. Ableism and anti-elder ageism will also be explored.
