TESTIMONY TO THE PITTSBURGH PUBLIC SCHOOL BOARD
June 22, 2015
Natalie Grabowski, RN
Hello! My name is Natalie Grabowski, and I'm a registered nurse working here in Oakland. I ask you today to reconsider your vote to allow Planned Parenthood into our schools.
I work as a nurse out of the desire to serve others, and I know that physicians and all medical facilities should be held to the highest standard of ethics and practice. I stand up for this principle today knowing that Planned Parenthood – the medical provider you want to contract with for our children's sex education – has demonstrated a willingness to subvert sound medical regulations, to skirt the law, and to take clearly unethical actions time and time again.
The question I pose to all of you: should we allow our students to be placed in so intimate a discourse with an organization that has demonstrated such gravely unethical conduct?
For one: in Texas, Planned Parenthood was accused of systematically defrauding Medicaid. They settled with the U.S. government, denied wrongdoing but paid $4.3 million. Of course if they really had done nothing wrong they would have had no need to settle—and especially to agree to such a hefty penalty.
This is not the sort of organization that should be in our children's classrooms.
Secondly, there is irrefutable evidence that Planned Parenthood employees have offered to cover up statutory rape, abuse, and sex trafficking in order to close the sale of an abortion. In Ohio, our state “next-door”, Planned Parenthood failed to report the statutory rape of a high school student by her own soccer coach. In Illinois, Planned Parenthood lobbied against a common-sense law requiring abortion center staff to report abuse and rape, saying that it might “overburden” the local government. They value the sale of an abortion more than protecting our students from rapists: that is nothing short of irresponsible and scandalous.
This is not the sort of organization that should be in our children's classrooms.
At our local Planned Parenthood, at 933 Liberty Avenue downtown, health inspectors found violations as follows just four years ago:
“An unlocked metal box in an unlocked cabinet containing what appeared to be a nearly full prescription pad which had been completely signed by the physician. When questioned, staff and physician stated that when the physician is not present, the nurse may write the prescription on the pad and give it to the patient prior to their leaving the facility.”
This was not a mere oversight – this was a gross ethical misconduct that speaks to their disrespect for proper medical practice and disregard for their patients' lives.
This is not the sort of organization that should be in our children's classrooms.
I stand before you as a nurse who sees the consequences of medical ethics day-in and day-out. I stand before you as a fellow Pittsburgher, and I ask you to repeal the vote that allows Planned Parenthood to provide sex education to our children. I ask you to repeal the vote that contracts with an organization that has demonstrated unethical practices both in business and in medicine.

Planned Parenthood: 94% of all pregnancy outcome services performed are abortions
<http://issuu.com/actionfund/docs/annual_report_final_proof_12.16.14_/0>
Can be found on page 18 of the annual report: of all services related to pregnancy outcome, adoption referrals made up 1,880 services, prenatal services made up 18,684 services, and abortions made up 327,653 services.
Total pregnancy outcome services = 348,217.
To get percentage of all pregnancy outcome services that were abortions =>
100 x (327,653/348,217) = 94.09%
